Problem in applying targa files to implement translucency

I am editing a skin without any perpixel borders,translucent taskbar,etc using SkinStudio 5.I created targa files with suitable translucency and tried to apply to the skin.But the skin accepts only '.bmp' files.When targa files are chosen,the image of the attribute goes blank.Then I tried the option 'Browse for a file' in the 'Import' button.In that case, the content of the targa file gets copied to a bitmap file and that bitmap file is accepted as the image for the attribute.
Can anyone help to solve this problem?
